What to expect in couples counseling

As a Gottman Trained Therapist, I lead all couples through a four-session assessment process. The first session is together, then we split into individual sessions, and then we come back together for the fourth session.

This initial assessment can predict, with 94% accuracy, whether a couple is headed to a breakdown. By identifying harmful patterns, we can work to interrupt harm in the relationship and put you and your partner on the path to healing.

Together, we’ll do counseling identity work and identify the values that matter most to you. We’ll use this information to create a customized treatment plan to address your unique mental health struggles.

Clarity

Next, we’ll look at any barriers that are standing in the way of your growth. Whether that’s past trauma, addiction, or attachment issues, past experiences often create barriers that prevent you from progressing in the present. In this step, we’ll work on identifying your limiting beliefs, patterns of action, and past experiences that keep you from moving forward.

Action

Finally, we’ll work together to create an effective action plan to help you become more fulfilled in life. I’ll support you and provide the tools you need to gain the skills required to heal from the past while effectively engaging in the present.

Treatment Modalities for Our Services

EMDR

EFT

With EFT, we look at your relationship through the lens of adult attachment. This means we look at both partners’ personalities, attachment styles, and behaviors in intimate relationships. We analyze your social bonds and look at your emotional regulation strategies as a way to change the relationship you have with both yourself and your partner.

ACT

With ACT, we use strategies like values clarification, mindfulness, and acceptance to help you overcome negative thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors. By focusing on your values first, you can become more mentally resilient and lead a more fulfilling life.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of counseling that identifies and changes negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to your mental health issues. Through CBT, you’ll learn how to challenge and reframe negative thoughts.

DBT

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that teaches you coping skills for managing difficult emotions. While CBT focuses on redirecting patterns of thought, DBT focuses on making changes in your behavioral health.

Interpersonal Neurobiology

Interpersonal Neurobiology is an interdisciplinary approach that draws on neuroscience and psychology to study how the brain affects our social relationships.
